Might as well make it official

Sat Oct 9, 2004, 5:47 PM
Okay ... ah, as you can probably tell, I hardly come here anymore. I've been busy with school, and frankly, I'm not drawing as much as I used to. I seem to lack the drive and (or?) patience these days.

I may come back to peek around every now and then, but I can't guarantee I'll be uploading much stuff (which... should pretty much be apparent) or commenting that often. I'm sorry :( I really do miss everyone here, but my heart just hasn't been in it lately.

Er, also, I have a few friends on here from IAM; it's probably another obvious thing but just in case, I figured I'd let you know ... my IAM account expired ages ago so I don't even bother logging in there, even though I think I can still receive PMs... anyway, yes, I'm kinda doing a dropping-off-the-face-of-the-earth thing, but if you know me, you know I'm still alive and you can find me elsewhere. ;)

Thank you and good night!

Hi! I really wish you would update again! I love your art so beautiful! :D

I really like your style, it's very comic-bookish. But I don't like the work that's colored... what can i say, I'm a traditional artist. It looks fake and weird... and it ruins some of the shading. I'd look into that.

I love your sketches though, keep it up.

If you didn't like her CGing, you didn't have to say anything about it, since it's obvious that you're biased towards traditional media. I don't see anything "fake" or "weird" about her coloring. Just because it's a CG doesn't mean it's either of those things. That's pretty degrading, anyway, and not very constructive at all. Try to be a little more open-minded. Just because she doesn't CG the same way your favorite artists do doesn't mean there's anything fake about it. Instead of telling her her coloring is weird, why don't you specifically state what you don't like about it? Telling her to "look into that" doesn't really help her improve whatever you dislike about her style.
I was stating my opinion. No one has to take it. I think that the coloring could be shaded better, like in this piece:
[link]

it needs more shading to look more realistic. I'm not saying it has to be like traditional art, I'm saying it could be better, and how to improve it. I wasn't being negative.

To me, it looks weird. Thats my opinion. I didn't say I don't like cging or that because it's not traditional art it's bad. In fact, I said I like it.
"I really like your style, it's very comic-bookish. "
"I love your sketches though, keep it up."

back off.

I just wanted you to be more specific. Now that you've clarified and explained, I think you've offered her some helpful criticism. However, the words you originally chose definitely SOUNDED negative (which is also how she interpreted them). You still hurt her feelings.
There was nothing negative about what I said. and since I was commenting overall on her work, not a specific piece, it's ok for me to have said "i like this about your work but not this"

if ~linglei has a problem she can talk to me herself about it.
